“The PrecisionFlex™ resistance rod is a flexible tool that allows graded resistance in varied positions for strengthening of the upper and lower extremity. It can be utilized to increase joint stability, engage core muscles while increasing strength to the muscles being exercised. The PrecisionFlex™ resistance rod’s unique material offers concentric and eccentric resistance during any exercise. Being asked to work on designing exercises for the shoulder complex using the PrecisionFlex™ resistance rod, I found the task challenging and interesting. During the process, I handed the PrecisionFlex™ resistance rod to a variety of patients with varying difficulties with their shoulders. What I found was that with one demonstration or even verbal cues alone, my patients were able to perform the exercise properly and without much follow up cueing. As a private practitioner in the home setting, the PrecisionFlex™ resistance rod is a very useful, effective and safe exercise tool. I have utilized Thera-band exercise bands and tubing and Cando bands for graded resistance to upper body and lower body exercises during treatments, and I have had incidents where the bands and tubing break during the exercise causing interruption of the movement and sometimes, “snapping back” at patient or myself. I have also found that without purchasing separate attachments such as handles for the tubing or the bands, one tends to pinch their hands/fingers during the use of the bands.
